The Golden Gate Bridge is probably the world’s most famous bridge. It is 2.7 km long and truly represents the city. In the afternoon, It often disappears in the mist. It is therefore better to visit in the morning, when its orange color stands out against the blue of the sky and the bay.
The cable cars
Cable Cars have been a means of public transport in San Francisco since the end of the 19th century. Only three routes are still in service today: Powell-Hyde, Powell-Mason and the California Street Line. Climb up on the running board and cling to a leather strap to enjoy the breathtaking views from the famous San Francisco hill tops.
Alcatraz
Alcatraz, the infamous former jail, is located on the island of the same name in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Some of the USA’s most famous criminals have done time there.
Fisherman’s Wharf
This is San Francisco’s most popular and most visited neighborhood. It is full of original and amusing shops and busy sea food restaurants. Don’t miss a visit to Pier 39 to admire the sea lions basking in the sun on the wooden pontoons. Here you can wander round just watching the fishing boats come and go in the harbour.
